WRENTHAM - Two key public hearings for zoning changes going before the Nov. 9 town meeting are scheduled for Wednesday night, including one for a controversial adult entertainment district proposed off Route 1.
That hearing is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the community room of the public safety building behind town hall.
In light of the heavy turnout at a hearing earlier this month for the district, another hearing has been called. A few people complained they couldn't fit into the jammed meeting room at town hall, Town Planner Paige Duncan said.
The proposed bylaw designates a 16-acre area east of Route 1 near the Plainville line for adult entertainment. The bylaw would allow the town more control where businesses such as adult bookstores, video stores and strip clubs could locate in town, proponents say. With no restrictions, they can locate anywhere business is allowed, including downtown.
Rezoning at Route 1 and I-495
Another hearing, on a request to rezone from residential and Commercial-1 to Commercial-2 nearly 54 acres off Route 1 near Interstate 495 and Madison Street and Plainville, is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
Land owner/developer Gerry Lorusso had sought the change a few years back. The rezoning would make the zoning more consistent and allow for the building of larger buildings than presently permitted.
