Still photo taken from security camera shows suspect police say took a jar full of money at an Attleboro Dunkin' Donuts that was meant for an Attleboro charity. The suspect is from Taunton.
ATTLEBORO - Police have identified a suspect in the theft of heating assistance donations last week at the Dunkin Donuts inside the Briggs Corner Cumberland Farms store.
Detective Sgt. Arthur Brillon said the suspect, a 29-year-old Taunton man, was identified through a photograph about the crime published in The Sun Chronicle and other media outlets.
The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, will be summonsed for arraignment in Attleboro District Court at a later date.
The suspect faces a charge of larceny in a building.
The theft occurred last Tuesday night when a man took a glass jar filled with change and dollar bills contributed to HEAT Inc. by Dunkin' Donuts customers. The man slipped it under his jacket when a clerk and another customer turned their backs and then calmly ordered a coffee, according to police and a store clerk.
Shop owner Roger Deslauriers is running the charity in four of his Attleboro Dunkin' Donut locations in conjunction with HEAT - Helping with Energy Assistance Together.
Any Dunkin' customer who donates a dollar to HEAT gets a 10 percent discount on their purchase.
