LEGION: Callan leads Post 312
Top Headlines Callan, who pitched so well for the Attleboro High baseball team this past spring, has picked up where he left off with Post 312. The hard-throwing right-hander upped his season record to 4-0 with a complete-game effort, shutting down Somerset to the tune of just five hits and two walks while fanning seven. Callan carried a shutout into the seventh before Somerset scored its lone run. "He's having a great season," remarked South Attleboro coach John Pelland, whose team moved to 10-0-1 in the Zone and 13-1-2 overall. He's really putting it together and he's been getting great defense behind him. Brian's been throwing his curve for strikes early in the count and he's got a decent enough fastball that he has hitters guessing. The best part about it is that he's a good kid who really works hard." South Attleboro built up a 5-0 lead with two runs in the fourth, two more in the sixth and then another run in the seventh. Greg Najarian had another big night with the lumber as he went 3-for-3 (two doubles, single) with two runs scored and a run driven in. James Kelley was 2-for-3, including a two-run double in the sixth. Lucas Gagne helped out offensively, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. South Attleboro was coming off of a 15-1 pounding of Acushnet on Tuesday night. Gagne picked up the win in that one, going six innings. The lefty gave up the one run on five hits and three walks while striking out seven. Greg Dusel pitched a scoreless seventh to finish things off. Gagne, Ryan Lee and Najarian opened the scoring with three straight hits as South Attleboro put up three quick runs in the first. Najarian had a two-run double and Matt Boulter an RBI groundout for the 3-0 lead. Najarian ended up 2-for-4 with four runs driven in, including a two-run home run. Lee was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. South Attleboro visits Taunton later today. Foxboro 4, Medfield 3 MEDFIELD - Two lightning delays and a three-run fifth helped Post 93. Medfield scored three runs in the second off Jake Lisowski, on four Foxboro errors. Jim Gilmore's RBI single hand given Foxboro a 1-0 lead in the second. Foxboro (8-5-2) used a three-run fifth to win it. John Garabedian had an RBI single and Nick Thrasher the big blow, a two-run homer over the fence in center. Joe Clagg earned the win in relief, ending the game with a strikeout.
