Plainville's Renner third at Portland Open




PORTLAND, Maine - Plainville resident Jimmy Renner shot a 4-under par 67 in the first round of the TD Banknorth Portland Open Wednesday afternoon at Riverside Municipal Golf Course, good for third place after the tournament's first round.

Renner, the event's defending champion, trails Michael Baker by one stroke and leader Jeff Curl by five.

Renner had seven birdies on his round but was hurt by three bogies, including one on the 18th hole. Meanwhile, Curl, a resident of Ellington, Conn., shot a near perfect round, with seven birdies, one eagle, and no bogies. His final round score of 62 was one stroke off the course record.

Renner won the tournament last year with a final score of 197, 16-under par for the tournament.
