Norton United girls take first




NORTON - The Norton United U9 girls' soccer team recently finished in first place in the South Coast Soccer League's 'A' Division.

The team was undefeated in league play, going a perfect 8-0 and 30-3-1 overall. Accomplishments during the winter indoor season at ForeKicks in Norfolk included an U9 championship as well as an U10 semifinals berth.

Leading the team offensively were Amanda Britko, Alexa Derosa, Haley Elliott, Jackie Ireland, Abigail Kurtzer, Maddie Murphy and Kayla O'Keefe. Defensively, the team buckled down, the end result being half shutouts in half of the team's wins. Maddie Fong, Xenia Nikolos, Mary Rorke, Emma Sudduth and Kathryn Ward all excelled defensively while Ireland, Murphy, Nikolos and O'Keefe all provided solid goaltending.

Norton's team was coached by Tony Fong and assisted by Danielle Kurtzer and Scott Sudduth.
