Party turns violent in Wrentham

WRENTHAM - Two women and a man were stabbed at a Route 1 motel early Sunday about an hour after a birthday party in their room prompted a noise complaint.

A California man faces multiple assault charges in the incident at the Arbor Inn Motel, 900 Washington St., which occured about 1:18 a.m.

Witnesses told police Ashishek Prasad, 29, of Hayward, Calif. pulled a knife on and stabbed at least one of the victims during a fight near his room, which was near the victims' room, Detective Sgt. William McGrath said Sunday night.

Prasad and his brother were staying at the motel.

One victim, a 22-year-old woman, received a life-threatening stab wound to the abdomen and a severe laceration on her wrist. She was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She is expected to survive, McGrath said. A second woman, age 21, received a serious stab wound to the abdomen, and cuts on her hand and neck. She was taken to Rhode Island Hospital as well.

The third victim, a 23-year-old man, was stabbed in the leg. He refused medical treatment and transport to a hospital, and sought medical attention on his own at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.

The victims' names were not available Sunday night.

The incident happened about an hour after police responded to the victims' room in response to a noise complaint, McGrath said. The party then quieted down.

Police then received 911 call reports of multiple stabbings.

They found several people bleeding from apparent knife wounds, and substantial blood on the sidewalk and parking lot.

Police charged Prasad with assault with the intent to kill, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery.

He was held without bail overnight at the Wrentham Police Station and faces arraignment today in Wrentham District Court.

Police from Wrentham, Plainville, Norfolk and State Police responded to the scene.

McGrath is investigating the incident.
