State police say they recovered drugs thrown from car on I-95
ATTLEBORO - State police say a suspected drug trafficker threw five bags of cocaine on the highway when he got out of his car after a traffic stop on Interstate 95 early Thursday morning.
Trooper Jason Morse of the Foxboro barracks, the arresting officer, recovered the bags - containing 15 1/2 grams of suspected cocaine - and $1,953 cash the suspect allegedly tried to stuff between the seats of Morse's cruiser.
The suspect, identified as Francis Romero-Mascot, 36, of Roxbury, was ordered held without bail Thursday pending arraignment today on charges of cocaine trafficking and related motor vehicle offenses.
Romero-Mascot was stopped around 1:40 a.m. on I-95 in Attleboro and allegedly gave Morse a fake ID.
He and a passenger were identified after state police ran their fingerprints through an FBI data base.
The passenger, identified as Mario Omar, 41, of Central Falls, R.I., was not charged with any drug violations but was held on pending motor vehicle and identity fraud warrants out of West Roxbury District Court, according to police.
Romero-Mascot's arraignment was postponed until today because an interpreter was not available Thursday.
