In North, a hope for better karma all round

NORTH ATTLEBORO - Improving communication with other boards and getting all town departments to work together are among the goals of selectmen this year.

At the suggestion of Selectman Mark Williamson, the board held a brainstorming session to come up with their goals for the coming year. The next step will be to prioritize the list and begin working on specific tasks.

Many of the goals cited by board members related to improving communication and cooperation among town officials, departments and boards.

Selectman Dale Langille suggested his board return to inviting other town board and committees to meetings to obtain updates on important issues and improve communication.

Selectman Paul Belham suggested the board needs to work to promote "solidarity between boards and commission" so everyone can work together. Selectmen Chairman John Rhyno said he would like selectmen to continue with efforts to have all boards and committees televise their meetings to provide better communication with residents and promote transparency in government.

Other issues also were brought up during the brainstorming session.

Selectman Michael Thompson suggested the board work on community development efforts, while Williamson suggested the town keep an eye on finances and promote resource sharing.

Other issues discussed included working toward hiring a townwide engineering firm, putting together a senior housing bylaw, and researching and obtaining additional grants.

and enhancing outreach to the Legislature.
