Five Feehan netters advance in tourney




MATTAPOISETT - The Bishop Feehan girls' tennis team will have five players moving on to the quarterfinal round of the MIAA South Sectional State Individual Tournament after Sunday's action.

At No. 1 singles, Leah White found her rhythm after tough opening set, defeating Old Rochester's Michaela Shoemaker 7-6 (7-1), 6-0.

At No. 2 singles, Sally White defeated Apponequet's Ashley Pereira in three sets (4-6, 6-2, 6-0), but didn't have enough to overcome Seekonk's Shannon Bilodeau (7-5, 6-2).

At No. 3 singles, Siobhen Licudine bowed out to Fairhaven's Christina Potter 6-0, 6-1.

The Shamrocks' No. 1 doubles team of Jessica Nolan and Amanda Burlone won a second-set tiebreaker to down Old Rochester's Bridget Murphy and Sara Beauvais 6-1, 7-6 (7-1). The No. 2 doubles team of Eileen Flynn and Michaela Monroe received a bye into the quarterfinals.
