Anthony Bates, 22, of 1085 Central St., Pawtucket, was arrested Friday night while working at a mobile phone kiosk in the Emerald Square mall.

Police said Bates assaulted an officer before he was arrested by North Attleboro Detective Daniel Arrighi. Detectives in Attleboro obtained an arrest warrant for Bates and then contacted North Attleboro Police when they determined he was working at the Route 1 mall.

The two men then fled behind the store with an unknown amount of money. One of the two thieves was carrying a knife with a blade measuring at least 7 inches in length, while the other robber was carrying a black handgun, according to police, The clerk was not harmed in the altercation, but he was visibly shaken by the incident.

North Attleboro Police charged Bates with assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, disturbance of the peace, and for uttering threats to commit a crime. After police booked him on the North Attleboro charges, he was transferred to Attleboro Police, where he was charged with one count of armed robbery.
