NORTH ATTLEBORO - A house on Hawkins Road near the Cumberland, R.I., line sustained about $50,000 in damage from a fire Friday afternoon in a second-floor bedroom.
Firefighters were dispatched about 2:20 p.m. to 3 Hawkins Road after smoke was reported coming out of the windows of the two-and-half-story colonial home. The fire was reported knocked down about 15 minutes later.
No one was home at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.
The fire is believed to be accidental but remains under investigation, fire officials said.
The house is owned by William Fitzpatrick, the owner of the popular Fitzy's Pub restaurant in Plainville. Hawkins Road is off Paine Road.
Because town firefighters were busy investigating a gas leak on South Washington Street, firefighters from Cumberland and Attleboro assisted at the scene, which firefighters remained at for about 1 hours.
It was the third home fire in the area in recent weeks.
